SUNDAY PLAYLIST TOP 10 - WHAT'S YOURS? To me, music is life – my every emotion can take flight when I’ve got my tunes playing. Whether I want to drag a feeling out, or savour another, music is my release. I’m going to write another post about this passion, but thought I’d give you a little listen into my world with the top 10 tunes currently on my playlist. And while I feel I’m now far too old for the ol’ ‘hand-horns’, I still find myself going back to many songs I fell in love with many moons ago. ** Smash Mouth (All Star) ** Just yes!! Total morning motivator and thanks to Shrek even the 'littluns' love it. ** Queen (Hammer to Fall) ** My absolute idol – Freddie you always must be on my playlist. The transition from Mr Mercury’s famous ‘Ay-Oh’ into this awesome song is hands-down my favourite part of the 1985 Live Aid set. ** The All-American Rejects (Swing, Swing) ** Embracing my emo side these guys always get me through a tough workout – especially the cardio that I loathe! This also got me through a tough break-up – on loud and a bit of crazy skanking / dorky dancing in the living room. ** Silverchair (Ana’s Song) ** These guys are literally my youth – college days spent tuning into their early albums. Anyone that knows this band will have followed lead singer Daniel Johns’ lifelong battle with anorexia. This powerful song personifies the condition and help suffers separate themselves from it. ** Yellowcard (Light up the Sky) ** This song sends shivers down my spine I love it that much. It speaks of the vulnerability of love and human connection and how we must break down those walls to heal and live. This tune resonates so strongly with me. I find as the years pass following over a decade of marriage that went wrong, it gets harder to let my guard down and let a man into my heart. But I’m the eternal optimist and continue my search. “And it's still so hard to be who you are, so you play this part. And the show goes on, but you've come this far with a broken heart.” ** Amity Affliction (Shine On) ** Australian metalcore at its finest since 2003! Perfect balance of sweet melodies and a hint of death growl, these guys are ace! The lyrics are especially meaningful to me and have helped me in challenging times…. “We'll burn these fires bright, let's blaze our past into the night. So now it's sink or swim and we're too strong to drown.” ** Idlewild (Roseability) ** I’ve loved these Scotsmen since my college days, bolt jeans under my bum and chains. ** Twin Atlantic (Brothers & Sisters) ** The most raw Glaswegian vocals. I love Scottish rock/metal and these guys are awesome. Easy on the eye too ha. ** Biffy Clyro (Bubbles) ** I’ve followed these guys since like 2003, back in the days of being crammed into the West End Centre in Aldershot clutching my turbo shandy. And still giggle at the Cliffy Biro name decision. ** Disturbed (The Sound of Silence cover) ** The eery vocals of David Draiman are captivating and melodic in this expert Simon & Garfunkel cover. I’ve always admired and loved David’s signature chin piercings – he just rocks it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in chat this week!
